Speakers share digital transformation in HSE processes in an SSGC-organized conference of top companies

Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) practices have become critical pillars of responsible and sustainable corporate operations across all industries. While policies and compliance frameworks are important, real transformation stems from shared learning, lived experiences, and practical applications. With this objective in mind, for the first time ever, SSGC hosted a knowledge-sharing conference entitled as ‘SafeFuture – HSE for a Sustainable Tomorrow’ in its head office auditorium. The conference, conceptualized and hosted by the Company’s HSE&QA Department brought together five leading companies to share real-world case studies, key HSE initiatives, digital transformation through IT, AI driven processes and safety culture. Conference featured enlightening presentations from HSE experts from PSO, PPL, PARCO, MIDAS Safety and SSGC that highlighted on real HSE scenarios.

In his welcome address, Saeed Rizvi, DMD (Operations), SSGC welcomed the delegates of the participating companies and expressed his confidence that their presentations will promote inter-company learning and collaboration on safety, sustainability and compliance best practices. Mr. Rizvi stressed that HSE & QA too is an integral part of its business processes especially when it comes to implementing transmission and distribution projects. He said that SSGC is currently undertaking a massive gas pipeline rehabilitation program stretching over 2,500 kms, where maintaining quality in every process, is indispensable for successful commissioning.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Madni Siddiqui, SSGC’s Senior General Manager (Upper Sindh and Balochistan) took the audience on the Company’s HSE Department’s journey, from its humble beginnings a few decades ago to a progressive unit that is not shying away from incorporating technology for continuous improvement in processes.

In his presentation, Mr. Shamail Haider, SSGC’s Acting General Manager (HSE&QA) said that HSE in the workplace is a state of mind and a clear understanding that accidents and untoward incidents can be prevented with right approach and practices. He also shared SSGC’s gradual transition towards creating a paperless environment from paper based HSE Management system to Digital HSE web portal.

Eminent speakers from leading energy sector organizations presented incisive presentations related to HSE practices in their respective organizations with particular focus on AI technology. They included Mr. Muhammad Haris, PSO’s Manager HSE, Mr. Abid Hussain, PPL’s Dy. Chief Engineer QHSE, Mr. Jawad Hussain, PARCO’s Chief Engineer HSE and Syed Muhammad Farooq Ahmed and Ms. Aamna Khalid, Midas’s Head of HSE and Sustainability and Head of Corporate Communications’ respectively.

Mr. Shahbaz Islam, SSGC’s Group General Manager HSE&QA who, along with his team, took the lead in organizing this informative conference gave a comprehensive presentation on ‘Safety in Action: Building a Culture, not just Compliance’ in which he went on length to unfold SSGC’s best practices and actual case studies on HSE&QA. He informed that this conference was purely an initiative of SSGC yet the collaboration of the participating companies has made it an instant success.

Yogi Wajahat, a renowned fitness trainer who practices and teaches Hata and Raja yoga shared with the audience some tips that can be helpful in implementing health and safety more efficiently at the sites. The conference was ably moderated by A/DGM Corporate Communications Syed Imran Ahmed.
