Dubai launches education and visa reforms to boost graduate employment and global appeal

DUBAI – In a bold move to reshape its education landscape and strengthen job prospects for graduates, Dubai has unveiled a series of reforms aimed at aligning its development goals with global standards of innovation, sustainability, and economic growth by 2030.

A key highlight of the initiative is an enhanced student support framework that includes upgraded visa policies, expanded international scholarships, and a targeted effort to ensure that 90% of students secure employment within six months of graduation.

To support this goal, Dubai is revamping its student and post-graduate visa system. These changes will make it easier for graduates to remain in the city, pursue job opportunities, or even launch their own ventures. Additionally, scholarship programs will be widened, opening up Dubai’s academic institutions to more international students seeking high-quality education.

The city currently hosts 37 foreign universities. Authorities plan to raise this number to over 70 by 2033, with the ambition of attracting top 200-ranked institutions. The expansion is projected to inject over Dh5.6 billion into Dubai’s economy.

Beyond education, the government is also focusing on broader development goals. A clean air strategy is set to be implemented by 2030 to improve environmental quality. Moreover, a new international mediation centre is being planned to reinforce Dubai’s growing reputation as a trusted legal and arbitration hub.

These reforms reflect Dubai’s long-term vision of establishing itself as a global center for education, business, and innovation, open to talent and investment from around the world.
