Google’s new Doppl app uses AI to offer virtual clothing try-ons with animated previews

Google has introduced a new experimental mobile app called Doppl, which allows users to virtually try on clothes using advanced AI technology—offering a glimpse into the future of online shopping.

Currently available in the United States for both iOS and Android, Doppl works by transforming a full-body photo of the user into a personalized digital model. Shoppers can then see how various outfits—from online retailers, fashion blogs, or even Instagram screenshots—would look on them.

What sets Doppl apart is its ability to generate short, animated videos of the virtual try-on, offering a more lifelike preview of how clothing might fit and move in real life. This is a major improvement over existing tools that typically provide only static images.

The app also includes options to save looks, compare styles, and share outfit choices with others. These features are designed to enhance the decision-making process while reducing the hassle of returns.

As part of Google Labs, Doppl is still in the experimental phase. Google acknowledges that while the technology is promising, it may not always capture every fabric detail or ensure perfect fit—but the goal is clear: to revolutionize how people shop for fashion online.
