Iranian president claims Israel tried to assassinate him during recent conflict

In a striking revelation, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has claimed that Israel made an attempt on his life during the recent 12-day conflict between the two countries. Speaking to American media personality Tucker Carlson in an interview released Monday, Pezeshkian confirmed that an assassination plot was carried out—but failed.

“They did try, yes. They acted accordingly, but they failed,” he said in response to whether he believed Israel tried to kill him. He clarified that the United States was not behind the attempt, directly blaming Israel instead. “I was in a meeting… and they tried to bomb the area where we were gathered,” Pezeshkian added, according to a translated version of his comments in Persian.

The alleged attempt reportedly took place during the brief but deadly war in June, which left over 900 people dead in Iran, including top military and nuclear figures, as confirmed by Iranian officials. In retaliation, Iran launched waves of missile and drone strikes that killed 28 people in Israel.

The war also saw coordinated attacks on Iranian nuclear sites by Israel and the United States, targeting sensitive facilities in Fordo, Isfahan, and Natanz.

Despite the tensions, President Pezeshkian signaled Iran’s willingness to return to the negotiating table for nuclear talks—on one condition: trust.

“We have no problem resuming negotiations,” he said, “but how can we be sure the U.S. won’t again allow Israel to strike us in the middle of dialogue?” He emphasized that rebuilding mutual trust is essential before talks can realistically continue.

His comments come just as global attention refocuses on Iran’s nuclear program, with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recently pulling some of its inspectors from Iranian facilities.
