QUETTA – The Reko Diq mining project is far more than a mineral extraction site — it’s a long-term catalyst for economic and social transformation in Balochistan, according to Barrick Mining Corporation CEO Mark Bristow. Speaking during his visit to Humai village, the closest settlement to the project site, Bristow described Reko Diq as a “multi-generational opportunity” that will benefit communities for decades to come.
Engaging directly with local residents, Bristow reaffirmed the commitment of Reko Diq Mining Company (RDMC) to create meaningful employment, improve education, and enhance healthcare services in the region.
“We’re building opportunities not just within RDMC but also through a broad network of partner and supplier companies supporting this development,” Bristow said. “To help local communities benefit fully, we’ve launched education and skills training initiatives. Already, 75% of our workforce comes from Balochistan — most from Chagai District — and we aim to strengthen this even further.”
Beyond jobs and training, Bristow highlighted investments in healthcare, including a Health Clinic and a newly established Mother & Child Health Centre in Humai. For the first time, women in nearby communities have access to specialized maternal care, including pre- and postnatal services.
He stressed that the involvement of local communities is key to the success of Reko Diq. “You can’t develop a world-class resource like this without the active support and participation of the people who live here,” he noted.
Village Chief Liaqat Malik and Par-e-Koh Community Development Committee Chairman Taj Muhammad praised RDMC’s initiatives and Bristow’s continued engagement. They pledged full community support for the ongoing development of the project, recognizing its potential to bring progress and new opportunities.
Bristow was joined by senior RDMC leaders, including Country Manager Zarrar Jamali, General Manager Ryan Mitchell, Senior VP Woo Lee, Head of Sustainability Ashley Price, and Executive Simon Bottoms.
