RAWALPINDI – Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, has alleged that the former prime minister’s life is at risk in prison and announced plans to approach the Supreme Court to seek urgent relief.
Speaking to journalists outside the Anti-Terrorism Court on Wednesday, Aleema said both her brother and nephew were being subjected to “unlawful detention.” She claimed Imran Khan was being kept in solitary confinement, with his access to newspapers and television deliberately cut off.
“The jail authorities are violating his basic rights,” she said. “The superintendent is lying — my brother does not lie.”
Aleema also accused the Punjab government of targeting Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan’s wife, as part of a larger strategy to pressure the PTI founder. “This is an orchestrated campaign directed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who has appointed officials specifically to inflict injustice,” she alleged.
She relayed a message from her brother, stating he was willing to hold talks “for the sake of the nation, not for personal gain.” She said Khan urged PTI members to “end personal feuds, speak up for justice, and launch a movement against oppression.”
Calling on the public to act, Aleema said, “We are all suffering from inflation. It’s time for the people to stand up themselves.”
Imran Khan has been in prison since August 2023, facing multiple cases ranging from corruption to terrorism after being removed from office in April 2022 through a no-confidence vote.
Following her recent meeting with Khan, Aleema quoted him as saying, “My access to media has been blocked, and my human rights are being violated.” She also conveyed his message to PTI parliamentarians, urging them to decide their political future and be prepared for meaningful negotiations.
