After weeks of speculation, Google has officially confirmed August 20 as the date for its next major hardware event, where the company will unveil the Pixel 10 lineup along with several new gadgets.
The event will introduce four new smartphones—Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Google is also expected to showcase the Pixel Watch 4 and possibly reveal the Pixel Buds 2a, the successor to its entry-level wireless earbuds.
New Tensor G5 chip
All Pixel 10 models will run on the Tensor G5 SoC, Google’s first chip produced by TSMC instead of Samsung. This shift is expected to deliver better thermal management, power efficiency, and overall performance compared to previous Tensor chips, addressing key concerns from earlier Pixel generations.
Camera and accessory upgrades
The Pixel 10 series is also tipped to bring macro photography support on both ultrawide and telephoto lenses. Google is introducing “Pixelsnap” magnetic accessories, though unlike Apple’s MagSafe, the magnets will be built into special cases rather than the phones themselves.
Fixing Pixel 9’s shortcomings
The new lineup follows the Pixel 9 series launched in 2024, which received praise for its AI-driven camera features but faced criticism over the Tensor G3’s thermal efficiency and modest performance improvements. Battery life issues were also a major concern—something the Pixel 10 aims to improve.
Interestingly, earlier leaks pointed to an August 13 launch, but Google has now settled on August 20, which aligns with the typical timeline for Pixel announcements.
