Sanam Jung shares struggles of raising kids abroad while managing life without help

Pakistani actor and TV host Sanam Jung has candidly shared the challenges she faces while raising her children in the United States, far from the support system she once had in Pakistan. Appearing on Good Morning Pakistan on Thursday, Sanam reflected on the realities of motherhood while her husband, pilot Abdul Qassam Jafri, is away for half of every month due to work.

Sanam, who tied the knot in 2016, moved to Houston, Texas, in 2023 after securing her green card. Initially, she and Qassam had planned a long-distance marriage when he relocated to the US for his career. However, she later decided to join him with their elder daughter, Alaya, so the family could live together. The couple welcomed their second daughter, Aliza, in 2024.

Speaking about her current routine, Sanam said that while Qassam handles major household tasks and grocery shopping when he is home, she manages everything else on her own. “It’s not easy with two kids, especially when you don’t have any household help like in Pakistan,” she shared.

The former Jago Pakistan Jago host admitted she misses her career but has chosen to prioritise her children. “I can’t take on a full-time, in-person job right now. I try to do brand endorsements on Instagram, but even that I mostly do when my husband is home, as I can’t leave my kids alone.”

Recalling her life back home, Sanam said she took the convenience of domestic help for granted. “In Pakistan, you can call someone to fetch groceries or clean up a mess. Here, you have to do it all yourself,” she explained.

Despite the challenges, Sanam remains grateful. “Although I’m not working at the moment, I’m doing an even more important job — giving time to my kids,” she said.
