The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has sealed multiple sections of a well-known bakery in Lahore during a crackdown on food safety violations. The operation, conducted in Lahore’s Kahna and Multan Road areas, led to the closure of a warehouse, jam production unit, and two other sections of the bakery. PFA also imposed fines totaling Rs. 2.7 million on four food business operators involved.
During the inspection, PFA teams, led by Director General M Asim Javaid, uncovered and destroyed large quantities of expired and contaminated products, including 44,000 litres of soybean oil, 30,000 kilograms of pickles and preserves spoiled with fungus, 400 kilograms of expired flavorings, and 3,385 kilograms of various chemicals. The bakery’s cake section and cold storage were also shut down due to the use of expired ingredients and substandard cleanliness.
One unit was found producing pickles and jam from rotten fruits and vegetables, while another was distributing expired and poor-quality products disguised in attractive packaging. The discovery was made after inspectors detected foul odors and observed unsanitary conditions violating food safety regulations.
PFA’s Director General warned the public that consumption of unsafe food can cause serious stomach and intestinal diseases. He assured continued planned and surprise inspections throughout Punjab to ensure consumer safety. Citizens are encouraged to report food adulteration cases by contacting the PFA helpline at 1223.
