Punjab expands electric bus service to seven more districts with Rs20 fare

Lahore – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced the expansion of the province’s electric bus network to seven more districts, with a new fleet of 100 buses set to depart from Yantai Port, China, on Tuesday night.

The buses will serve Mianwali, Okara, Nankana Sahib, Muzaffargarh, Vehari, Pakpattan, and Dera Ghazi Khan — districts that have long been underserved by formal public transport systems.

In a post on X, the chief minister said the fare for the service would be just Rs20, making it both affordable and accessible for the public.

“This modern, eco-friendly fleet will offer air-conditioned, WiFi-enabled transportation, equipped with a fully automated ticketing system,” she said. “Designed to be inclusive, the buses will be accessible for people with disabilities and will ensure a safe, comfortable, and secure travel experience for citizens of Punjab.”

This marks another step in Punjab’s push for cleaner, more efficient public transport while improving connectivity in smaller districts.
