Pakistan, Saudi Arabia sign $121m agreements for hospital and hydropower projects

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on Friday signed $121 million worth of agreements covering healthcare and energy projects, reaffirming Riyadh’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s development agenda.

The contracts, financed by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), include three major initiatives: the construction of King Salman Hospital in Tarlai, Islamabad, and consultancy services for the Shounter and Jagran hydropower projects in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

According to officials, the King Salman Hospital will be backed by a $20 million Saudi grant, while the Shounter project will receive a $66 million concessional loan and the Jagran project a $35 million loan.

At the signing ceremony, Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki highlighted Riyadh’s “unwavering support” for Pakistan, stressing that the projects will deliver vital services, boost economic growth, and enhance the welfare of local communities.

The deals mark another step in Pakistan-Saudi cooperation, with health and renewable energy positioned as priority sectors in bilateral ties.
