Dongfeng Aeolus L8 PHEV can travel from Karachi to Islamabad on a single charge and tank

Chinese automaker Dongfeng has unveiled the Aeolus L8, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) boasting one of the longest ranges in its class. Powered by the company’s Mach Electric Hybrid system, the L8 combines a 1.5L turbocharged engine, an electric motor, and a 30.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, producing a combined 355 horsepower.

According to independent testing by the China Automotive Technology & Research Center (CATARC), the L8 can deliver an all-electric range of 248 km and a total driving range of 2,245 km—enough to cover the distance between Karachi and Islamabad without refueling or recharging.

Fuel efficiency tests recorded an impressive 41.66 km per liter, while the PHEV also supports 3C fast charging, allowing a 20% to 80% charge in just 18 minutes under optimal conditions.

The Aeolus L8 is equipped with 28 Level 2 ADAS functions, including adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, traffic sign recognition, and automatic emergency braking. Safety features include six airbags, a digital rearview mirror, and AI-powered smart controls backed by DeepSeek and ByteDance’s Doubao systems.

Dongfeng confirmed plans to expand Aeolus L8 sales to international markets, including the Middle East and South America, while also preparing to launch solid-state EVs by 2026 with over 1,000 km range.
