ISLAMABAD: The National AI Taskforce has finalized an ambitious roadmap to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) across key sectors, aiming to boost economic growth, drive innovation, and ensure global competitiveness. The roadmap, developed in collaboration with the National Center of Artificial Intelligence (NCAI), emphasizes AI adoption in healthcare, manufacturing, energy, education, defense, and more. It includes plans to establish a National AI Office for centralized governance and policymaking, supported by regional AI Liaison Offices to address localized needs.
This significant initiative was deliberated during a meeting convened by the Ministry of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives (MoPDSI). The meeting, chaired by Minister Ahsan Iqbal, brought together top government officials, industry leaders, and AI experts to discuss the roadmap and its actionable milestones.
As per details, the roadmap highlights education and skill development as core priorities, with programs to promote AI literacy from school to university levels, vocational training, and scholarships. It also outlines strategies to accelerate research and innovation, including the establishment of Technology Parks to support startups and commercialization of AI technologies.
A notable feature of the roadmap is the Uraan Pakistan initiative, which aims to leverage AI for export growth, sustainable development, and achieving goals such as digital transformation and social justice. Immediate steps include a three-month action plan featuring 12 sector-specific workshops to address infrastructure gaps and strategize on AI integration.
Collaboration across government bodies, private sectors, and academia is a cornerstone of the plan. International partnerships will also play a vital role in ensuring alignment with global best practices and fostering knowledge exchange.
With clear milestones and committed stakeholders, Pakistan’s AI strategy is set to unlock significant economic opportunities, improve governance, and create a more equitable and innovative future.
