WUM organizes International Conference on Sustainable Development Goals
ISLAMABAD: Senator Sherry Rehman has warned that climate change poses serious threats to the world, emphasizing the need to safeguard the country’s ecosystem. She urged individuals to play their role in addressing climate challenges, including conserving drinking water and properly managing waste.
She expressed these views while addressing the 9th International Conference on Sustainable Development Goals for a Better Future, hosted by Women University Mardan (WUM) in collaboration with COMSTECH Islamabad, SBBWU, the National Rehmat-lil-Alameen Authority (NRKNA), and the University of Lakki Marwat (ULM) in Islamabad.
Senator Rehman also highlighted gender disparity as a global issue, noting that women in Pakistan, who constitute a major portion of the population, are still not granted full freedom of choice and labor rights. She emphasized that if women are given their due rights, they can play a pivotal role in the development of society, ultimately contributing to the country’s progress.
The conference brought together experts from around the world to discuss critical issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG-3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG-6 and SDG-13 (Clean Water and Climate Action), SDG-5 (Gender Equality), and SDG-17 (Partnership for the Goals).
During the two-day conference, participants engaged in thought-provoking discussions, shared cutting-edge research, and explored innovative solutions to address these pressing global challenges.
The conference featured participants from over 20 national and international institutions, including universities, research centers, and organizations from Pakistan, China, the UK, and Uzbekistan.
Keynote speakers included Dr. Davut Sahbaz from the University of Ankara, Turkey; Ms. Madiha Sajid, Chairman of UPSIGN, UK; Dr. Saeed Ullah from China; Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Nadeem, Chairman of NRKNA; Dr. Shahid Baig from the Health Services Academy; Dr. Khalid Khan, a chief advocate in climate action; Prof. Anisa Qamar from the University of Peshawar; and Mr. Khalid Taimur Akram, Executive Director of the Pakistan Research Center for a Community with Shared Future (PRCCSF).
