Lahore — The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has kicked off a citywide campaign to distribute free plants in celebration of Pakistan’s Independence Day and Marka-e-Haq festivities.
The initiative began at Liberty Chowk and Jail Road, where citizens collected plants free of cost. Bicycle carts and mobile distribution camps are also moving through different parts of Lahore to ensure plants reach as many residents as possible.
PHA Director General Mansoor Ahmad said the drive serves a dual purpose — celebrating the national spirit while promoting environmental responsibility. “This initiative highlights the importance of tree plantation and invites every citizen to take part in building a green Pakistan,” he said.
The distribution campaign will continue until Thursday evening. Meanwhile, the city has been transformed with Independence Day decorations: major roads shine with green and white lights, underpasses are lit with electric displays, and floats adorned with national imagery roam the streets.
To further engage the public, a painting competition for young artists will be held at the National History Museum, adding a cultural touch to the celebrations.
